Pastor's Reflections

FROM SUMMER TO FALL

As we shift from the summer heat to the fall back to school mode, I want to thank everyone for helping make our summer diaper and wipes drive such a success. It is not always easy during difficult economic times to be generous, but you responded. Thank you to Joe Frisch for preaching for me the last Sunday of August. I also want to thank Kelly Gallery and the whole VBS staff for doing a great job again with our Summer VBS. Finally, I really enjoyed our ‘Baptism Summer’ where seemingly every other Sunday we had a baptism.

Do not forget that the first Sunday of September we have our annual one-service hymn sing at 10:00 a.m. and that the following week (September 12) we go back to the our regular schedule of 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services and Sunday school (for all ages) at 9:45 a.m. .

Our weekly Bible studies return on September 21 at 9:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. (See the article starting on page 1 for more information.) We will also be having a once a month study on World Religions beginning on September 27. (See the other article on page 9 for more information on this study.) We are also beginning our campaign to collect items for our veterans starting September 11 as detailed in the article on page 10. Finally, you will begin hearing about the relationship we are forming with a UMC missionary, so look for more information about that in the months to come. You can clearly see that we will be as busy as usual this fall. Please participate and support the ministries of our church.

We have been notified that our Charge Conference is scheduled for November 23 at 6:00 p.m. right here at JUMC. In preparation we will shortly begin the Lay Leadership process as we seek to fill various leadership and committee member positions. Please be thinking and praying about where you would be willing to serve. We need everyone to be involved in the work of this church. As we continue to struggle with our finances the Finance and SPRC committees will be facing some difficult decisions about next year. If you can give more please do so and for all who have given we thank you for your support of the church.

As always I am trying to be the best pastor I can be for this church. If you would like to meet with me please contact me so that we can set up a time and place to do so. I will continue to use either Friday or Saturday as my one day off a week.

Your fellow servant of Jesus Christ,

Glen
