Pastor's Reflections

LENT 2012

Lent begins on February 22nd, Ash Wednesday. We will be having a worship service at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Lent is a special time the church sets aside each year to remind Christians that God is always calling upon us to grow in our faith and in our service to God. Of course it is good for Christians to do this year round, but Lent is a convenient time and the traditional time to make such an effort.

As always, this time of growing in faith can consist of any number of things such as:

  • Denying oneself something you enjoy to show how God comes first;
  • Spending more time in prayer and/or Bible study to grow closer to God by experiencing more deeply His presence and better knowing His truth;
  • Doing an act of service for a person in need whether it be someone you know or a stranger;
  • Seeking to be open about your faith with others;
  • Deciding to do more at your church, and so on.

It doesn’t matter what you choose to do, just that you do something and grow!

What will you do this Lent to demonstrate and grow your faith walk? I want to challenge all of you to do something and make Lent 2012 a special time of growth for you and for our church. Every one of us can be better Christians, know God more truly, and better witness our faith. Yes, it is just an arbitrary time the church chose for such a time of challenge, but why not take it? I am sure that God desires that every one of us grow as Christians this year. It is my prayer for each of you that you will.

If you want to spend more time studying God’s Word we have excellent Sunday school classes and Bible studies for you to join. You could do the Bible readings in the BIBLE THINKING POINTS article (page 4) and ponder the questions. Of course regular worship and our special Holy Week services are also an excellent time to grow in one’s devotion to God.

I would ask everyone to pray for our confirmands as they continue their confirmation journeys. Also, when you see them, it would be great if you could ask them what they are learning and encourage them.

As always I continue to do the best job I can as your pastor. If you would like to meet with me please contact me and we will set up a time and place. I will continue to use either Friday or Saturday as my day off.

Your fellow servant of Jesus Christ,

Glen
